# How to: Exclude files or a subfolder from indexing

1. Open the project menu (the project name at the bottom of the sidebar) →
   **Manage project…** → **General**.
2. Under **Excluded files**, add one gitignore-style pattern per line — for
   example `drafts/` or `*.tmp`. A line starting with `!` puts something back.
3. It saves automatically as you type.
4. Files already indexed that now match are dropped the next time Axon checks
   the folder — reopen the project, or switch away from Axon and back, and
   press **Update index** on the card above the file list.
